On September 14, the train arrived in Kholmsk, the starting point of its route across Sakhalin, aboard the Sakhalin-8 diesel-electric ship from the port of Vanino. Over the coming days, residents of 10 cities and towns across the island will be able to visit the unique Victory Train exhibition, after which the mobile museum will return to the mainland on a Sakhalin Shipping Company ferry.
The Victory Train is the world’s first interactive exhibition on rails, designed to create a powerful sense of immersion. All carriages are decorated with high-quality wartime photographs, and visitors can also take part in virtual tours.
“We consider it an honor to be part of this mission. It is vital that the younger generation see history come alive with their own eyes, learn about the military and labor feats of their ancestors, and remember and take pride in their glorious deeds. This is our shared duty to the youth of Sakhalin,” said Igor Sharkov, First Deputy General Director and Chief Engineer of Sakhalin Shipping Company.
“Special thanks go to the Sakhalin Shipping Company team and all employees of the Vanino – Kholmsk ferry service for supporting the Victory Train project on Sakhalin. Their efforts enabled to transport this unique train across the Tatar Strait and gave island residents the chance to experience a historical exhibition that preserves the memory of our heroes’ feats,” said Artemy Kiselev, Acting Executive Director of the All-Russian Public Movement Victory Volunteers. < Back to list
