According to analysts from the Delo Group, the Russian container market grew by 6.8% over the first nine months of 2026, reaching 5.7 million TEU compared to the same period in 2025.
In January–September, the volume of container shipments slightly exceeded (by 0.7%) the figures for the same period in the record year of 2024. In September, shipments amounted to 618,000 TEU – 5.1% more than a year earlier.
The main growth rates were driven by imports. Significant dynamics were recorded in shipments via ports and railway border crossings in the Far East, as well as border crossings in Kazakhstan, where import volumes increased by 33% and amounted to 1.5 million TEU, or 67% of the country’s total container imports.
The market growth was additionally supported by the development of cabotage along the St. Petersburg–Kaliningrad route. The volume of transit shipments through Russian territory increased by 8.2% and amounted to 0.7 million TEU. At the same time, container exports decreased by 3.7%, to 1.4 million TEU, due to the strong ruble exchange rate and the effect of the high base in 2025.
The methodology for calculating the Russian container market by Delo Group takes into account loaded container shipments in foreign trade traffic via Russian ports and land border crossings, as well as transit and intra‑Russian rail and sea shipments.
