Global Ports Far East Terminal Increases Average Daily Container Loading into Gondola Cars

In July, Global Ports’ marine container terminal in Primorsky Krai (part of Delo Group) increased average daily loading of import containers into gondola cars by 26% month-on-month, to 190 railcars. On July 22, the terminal set an all-time record, loading 327 gondola cars across the day and night shifts.

Faster dispatch enables the terminal to respond promptly to growing import cargo flows in the Far East Basin, increasing the speed at which cargo moves through the port. In January–July 2026, container imports through the region’s ports rose 41% year-on-year to 752 thousand TEU.

The higher loading rate was achieved by redistributing gondola-car sorting and container-train formation operations between the terminal and the nearby Nakhodka-Vostochnaya railway station. Some trains are formed at the station, while others are dispatched directly from the terminal to destinations across Russia.

“Thanks to our strong partnership with the management of the Far Eastern Railway, we have achieved an excellent pace of loading containers into gondola cars. We will work to sustain this level and dispatch at least three trains a day,” said Ilya Dolgiy, General Manager of Global Ports’ Far East terminal.

Using gondola cars for container services is less operationally efficient than using container flatcars. However, Global Ports’ terminal in Primorsky Krai began using gondola cars in 2023 amid a shortage of container flatcars needed to move containerized imports out of the Far East. The measure helps mitigate the import-export imbalance and partially alleviate the shortage of specialized rolling stock.
