The multiple increase in throughput was achieved by diversifying technological solutions, utilising container infrastructure and expanding the number of handling terminals from one to three. Handling using Global Ports' own specialised containers showed explosive growth against the backdrop of high efficiency. In 2024, 1.1 million tonnes of cargo was handled in such containers, which is 11 times the 2023 result. From 2024, the terminals have completely abandoned handling fertilisers in big bags in favour of more efficient container technology.
Global Ports handles chemical products at marine terminals: Petrolesport, First Container Terminal in St. Petersburg and Ust-Luga Container Terminal (ULCT) in the deep-water port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region. In July, ULCT increased the guaranteed draft of vessels at its berths from 12.1 metres to 12.6 metres and can now accept Panamax class vessels. In November, the terminal launched hazardous fertiliser storage facility with a capacity of 96,000 tons.
In spring 2023, against the backdrop of growing demand from the chemical industry, Global Ports created its own fleet of 4,000 twenty-foot specialised containers and purchased special tilting spreaders for handling fertilisers using container technology. This made it possible to launch a new integrated service for the transport, storage and handling of bulk cargo. < Back to list
